Cardiovascular Disease: The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued an important warning regarding the increasing risk of heart disease (Heart Attack) across the world. According to WHO, about 10,000 people die of heart attack every day in Europe, which means 4 million people die annually. These deaths account for 40% of all deaths in Europe! That means 4 million people die every year.
WHO Europe Director Hans Klug said, "Implementing targeted policies to reduce salt intake by 25 percent could prevent approximately 9 million deaths from cardiovascular diseases by 2030."
In Europe, one in three adults aged 30 to 79 years suffer from high blood pressure, which is mainly caused by high salt intake. In 51 out of 53 countries in the WHO (World Health Organization) European Region, average daily salt intake exceeds the WHO recommended 5 grams (one teaspoon). The reason for this is excessive use of salt in processed food and snacks.
WHO said, "High salt intake increases blood pressure, which is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases like heart attack and stroke." Europe has the highest prevalence of hypertension in the world. According to a WHO Europe report, men in the region are about 2.5 times more likely to die from heart disease than women.

Eastern Europe and Central Asia are five times more likely to die from a heart attack at a younger age (30-69 years) than in Western Europe. From this information we understand that it is very important to spread awareness to reduce the intake of salt. By eating less salt we can protect ourselves and our family from heart diseases.
