Living in Assam state of the country and wildlife biologist Dr. Poornima Devi Burman has been honored with the British Wildlife Charity Award. Dr. Poornima has been honored for her efforts towards conservation of the endangered Greater Adjutant Stork (Hargila bird) and its wetland habitat.
Dr. Purnima received the Wheatley Gold Award of 100,000 British pounds from the Wheatley Fund for Nature (WFN) at the Royal Geographical Society Awards ceremony in London. The organization supports grassroots conservation around the world.
For the conservation of the stork ‘Greater Adjutant Stork’ known as ‘Hargila’ in Assamese by Princess Anne, sister of King Charles III of Britain and patron of the charity, Dr. The trophy was presented to Purnima.
