Because the Rishi Sunak government of Britain has given a big shock to the Indian students. The Government’s Migration Advisory Committee has prepared a report on closing the graduate visa route. According to the information, Mangalwa Sunak will be presented in the government cabinet. If this provision is implemented in Britain, every year approximately 91 thousand students will not get visa entry through the graduation route.
At present, every year approximately one lakh 30 thousand Indian students enter through this. After the cutoff, only 39 thousand students will get admission. It may be mentioned here that the graduation visa route started in 2021 allows Indian and other international students to stay and work in Britain for two years after completing their Masters.
25 lakhs in Indian fury
After the government’s plan, the leader of the opposition Labor Party, Keith Strammer, said that the government’s decision would be costly in an election year. Due to which 25 lakh Indian voters living in Britain are upset. Students getting a graduation visa strengthens their immigration claim, as being allowed to stay for two years of study gives these students the category of skilled worker. About 80 percent of Indian students come here to study medicine, engineering or law. After studies, they earn the salary of a skilled worker during their extended stay. British Home Secretary James Cleverley says it has been seen that students are using these visas to gain immigration.
Britain will suffer a blow of two lakh crore rupees
Three years ago, six lakh students were getting admission here. On this, former education minister Nikki Morgan said that two lakh crore rupees in fees will stop being received every year. This will affect the economy. Sally Mapston, Chancellor of St Andrews University, says that Indian students contribute to medical, engineering jobs. The number of Indian students going to Britain in 2021 was 87045, which increased to 139700 in 2022. When in the year-2023, 13 thousand students came to study in Britain.
What is Graduate Route Visa?
An international student who has completed graduation and post-graduation from Britain under the Graduate Route visa can apply to seek work and residence in the country. This international student can apply to stay in Britain for up to two years. While a PhD student can apply for up to three years. The Graduate Route Visa was implemented in July 2021 by the then Home Minister Priti Patel. Of the graduate route visas issued to 1,76,000 international students, 42 percent are Indian nationals. Any kind of change in this class will be heavy on Indian students.
