- PPP Chairman Bhutto demanded a meeting for talks
- Pakistan is in trouble due to inflation, unemployment
- Every problem of Pakistan will be discussed
People in Pakistan are suffering from inflation, unemployment and poverty. Besides, terrorism is also an issue for the country and the people,” the former foreign minister said while addressing a seminar on ‘Bhutto context and history’ here. “If politicians do not talk to each other, how can these issues be resolved, asked the 35-year-old leader.
It may be mentioned here that the PPP Chairman is the son of late former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Meanwhile, he said that his father President Asif Ali Zardari had given a message of reconciliation in his address to the joint Parliament session last month.
However, he said it was unfortunate that people who did not want reconciliation created a ruckus, Geo News reported. Bilawal said his party was trained by former prime ministers Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto. “Our character should match their training and we should represent those great leaders,” Bilawal said.
Bilawal’s grandfather, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was the President of Pakistan from 1971 to 1973 and then the Prime Minister from 1973 to 1977. He founded the PPP and served as its chairman until its demise in 1979.
The former foreign minister has expressed displeasure with the political culture prevailing in the country. He said, “Nowadays there is a politics of hate in our society. Politics has turned into personal enmity.” “We don’t respect differences in our society,” Bilawal said. The PPP chairman said that despite all this, PPP always believes in political dialogue and reconciliation.
He said, “The 1973 Constitution was the result of consensus. The 18th amendment to the constitution was passed unanimously during Asif Ali Zardari’s tenure as president. We have done all this by bringing together all the political forces in Parliament.”
Talking about the Supreme Court verdict in Zulfikar Ali Bhutto case, the PPP President said that the judicial verdict in Bhutto case is the result of long and hard struggle of party workers and 30 years long struggle of his mother. Bilawal said, “President Asif Ali Zardari sent this reference to the Supreme Court to give justice to Quaid-e-Awam martyr Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.”
The PPP chairman said that the Supreme Court heard the case and concluded that Bhutto was not given justice and the trial against him was not fair. He said, “We consider this judgment as historic and now that the court itself has admitted that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s sentence was wrong, we should bring judicial reforms. The judiciary can also bring its own reforms but this is primarily the work of Parliament.”
According to reports, “Bilawal is likely to return for a second term as Pakistan’s foreign minister as the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) have reached a power-sharing deal that was close to being finalised.”
