- Controversy arose over the map on the currency note in Nepal
- However, the government allowed the replacement of the disputed old map
- It is claimed that the Nepal government has taken the decision to print a new map
Neighboring country Nepal had announced to print a new 100 rupee note on a daily basis. In which Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani areas are shown in the map of the country. Which India has already considered as an artificial extension. However, a controversy has arisen over this disputed map. Because according to this map, both the countries are disputed as their own, so there has been a huge controversy over the place in the currency note.
Nepal Government Spokesperson Rekha Sharma briefed reporters on the cabinet’s decision. He said that the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal Prachand had decided to print a new map of Nepal in which Lipulesha, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani would be included in the Rs 100 note.
The map printed in the 100 note is a source of controversy for both the countries
Rekha Sharma is also holding the charge of Information and Communications Minister. He said that during the Cabinet meeting held on April 25 and May 2, the Cabinet approved the redesign of the Rs 100 bank note and the replacement of the old map printed in the background of the bank note.
On June 18, 2020, Nepal completed the process of amending its constitution to include the strategically important areas of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura in its country’s political map.
India reacted sharply to this and termed its unilateral action and artificial expansion and support of Nepal’s territorial claims. India claims Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura as its territory. Nepal shares more than 1850 kilometers of border with the five Indian states of Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
