Neighboring Nepal is about to do something that could once again escalate tensions with India. Nepal has announced to print a new map of the country on the new 100 rupee note. This map will show the three disputed territories over which India claims its authority. Nepal will include Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani in its new map.
In fact, India has already expanded these border areas. The decision to make a new map instead of the old one on the 100 rupee note was taken in the meeting of the Ministerial Council chaired by the Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpakamal Dahal ‘Prachand’. Government spokesperson Rekha Sharma said that a decision has been taken in the meeting to print a new map of Nepal in 100 rupee notes.
Nepal showed nefarious intentions in the 100 rupee note
This map will show Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani. Rekha Sharma is also the Information and Communication Minister of Nepal. He said that the Cabinet, in its meeting held on April 25 and May 2, approved the redesign of the new Rs 100 note and the replacement of the old map printed on the currency. Earlier, on June 18, 2020, Nepal included those three areas in its political map. For this he also amended the constitution.
258 votes were cast in favor of this controversial bill
258 votes (out of 275) were cast in favor of this controversial bill in Nepal’s parliament. No member voted against this bill. A two-thirds majority in the 275-member lower house was required to pass the bill. The main opposition parties including Nepali Congress (NC), Rashtriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) and Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) supported the new controversial map.
India strongly protested
After India announced a new political map in 2019, in 2020, the then KP Oli government of Nepal passed the new map of the country at the request of China. In which Nepal was shown to many parts of India along with Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura. However, India strongly objected to this controversial map.
India shares a 1850 km border with Nepal
Let us tell you that Nepal has a border of more than 1850 kilometers with five Indian states of Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. India retains its rights over Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura. These areas are adjacent to the Uttarakhand border in India.
