The President of neighboring Maldives, Mohammad Moijju, had given a deadline of May 10 for the return of the Indian army from his country. The reason behind this is that Mohammad Moijju is considered to be a pro-China leader. Moijju also campaigned for about 90 Indian soldiers stationed in Maldives to go to India in the election campaign. Maldives President’s Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed said that the last batch of Indian soldiers stationed in Maldives has been sent home. However. He was not informed about the correct number of Indian soldiers.
Heena Waleed said that information about the number of soldiers will be given later. Indian Army has deployed two gifted helicopters from India and a Donair aircraft in Maldives for operation and maintenance.
Earlier, the Maldives government had announced that 51 soldiers had been sent back to India on Monday. The government, citing an official document, informed about the presence of 89 Indian soldiers in Maldives. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told a press conference on Thursday, May 9 that the first and second batch of Indian personnel have returned to India and Indian technical officers have now been assigned to manage three Indian aircraft aviation foramen. The incident took place while Maldivian Foreign Minister Musa Zameer was on a visit to India. He met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday.
