India and Iran have signed an agreement on Chabahar port. The Minister of the Government of India has signed this historic agreement. According to the agreement, the journal cargo and container terminal of Chabahar port has been given to India for 10 years. However, due to this, neighboring countries Pakistan and China are bound to suffer.
Agreement between India and Iran on Chabahar
India and Iran have signed a 10-year agreement on Chabahar port. Ports and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal participated in the ceremony from India. Chabahar became the first port to be managed by the Government of India abroad. India has also offered a credit window of $250 million for the development of Chabahar. Currently, Chabahar port has become an international North-South transport hub. A plan to unify all these is underway. In which India’s connection with Russia will be very easy through Iran.
What will India benefit from Chabahar?
Taking advantage of the Chabahar Port, the country’s aim is to isolate Pakistan and create India’s access to Afghanistan and beyond to Central Asia. Chabahar Port holds strategic importance for India. Because, it acts as an important link connecting the country with Afghanistan, Central Asia and Eurasian region. Besides, this initiative is seen as a balance towards Pakistan’s Gwadar port and China’s belt.
