Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has said that he will continue to fight for the rule of law in the country. Addressing the nation via YouTube on Sunday evening, Khan said his fight was for a better future for his country and its people. Khan said, ‘Even if they put me in jail, I will neither compromise nor surrender. I will continue to fight for the rule of law and a better future for the people of my country.
He reached Islamabad from Lahore
The 70-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party chief arrived in Islamabad from Lahore on Monday and sought extension of his anticipatory bail in 19 cases. More than 140 cases are pending against Khan. Most of the cases are related to terrorism, public incitement to violence, arson, blasphemy, attempted murder, corruption and fraud. Meanwhile, a police official said police in Lahore arrested 30 PTI activists, including former football player Shumaila Sattar, on Sunday for trying to meet Khan at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore.
The lawyer was kidnapped
Sattar is a former member of the National Women’s Football Team. A senior lawyer, who had appealed against the civilian trial in military courts, was “abducted” after meeting Khan in Lahore, the official said. Lahore Police said Sattar was arrested in connection with the May 9 attack on the Corps Commander House in Lahore. Police said they were identified through geo-fencing and sent to jail on judicial remand.
Why were you arrested?
Khan also said that senior Supreme Court advocate Aziz Bhandari was abducted (by the agency) when he met him at his Zaman Park residence. He said Advocate Bhandari had petitioned the Supreme Court against the trial of civilians in military courts. “There is total martial law in the country,” Khan said. 30 PTI activists released from jail in connection with the May 9 violence wanted to meet Khan and have been re-arrested under the Public Disorders Act.
