According to the American space agency NASA, this spacecraft will be launched at 8:04 am Indian time. It will be launched from the Kennedy Space Center. Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore will spend about a week aboard the International Space Station.
For the first time, astronauts are being carried into space by the Boeing Starliner. Earlier, Boe-OFT was launched in 2019 and Boe-OFT2 in 2022. The Starliner mission is estimated to cost more than a billion dollars.
If this mission is successful, it will be considered a major step in the field of space. In 2011, NASA retired its space shuttle fleet. After this, NASA launched the Commercial Crew Program, under which Musk’s company SpaceX and Boeing are building spacecraft. If the mission is successful, Boeing’s Starline aircraft will also be authorized for space missions. Earlier in 2020, SpaceX had sent astronauts.
Sunita Williams will go to space for the third time
59-year-old Sunita Williams has traveled to space twice so far. Before this, she has gone to space in 2006 and 2012. According to NASA, she has spent a total of 322 days in space.
In 2006, Sunita spent 195 days in space and in 2012, 127 days. The highlight of the 2012 mission was that Sunita had spacewalked three times. Astronauts exit the space station during a spacewalk. However, she spacewalked four times during the maiden voyage.
Sunita Williams is the second woman of Indian origin to travel in space. Kalpana Chawla went into space before her.
Who is Sunita Williams?
Sunita Williams joined NASA in 1987 after graduating from the US Naval Academy. He was selected as an astronaut in NASA in 1998.
His father Deepak Pandya settled in America from Ahmedabad in 1958. Sunita was born in 1965. Sunita Williams, who graduated from the US Naval Academy, has also flown fighter planes. He has more than three thousand hours of flying experience on 30 types of fighter aircraft.
He also once shared his experience of space travel. He said that water does not last in space. Like bubbles flying here and there. They would catch floating bubbles and wet cloths to wash their hands and face. Even the food there had to be eaten strangely. All the astronauts would go to the dining room and catch the flying packets. He said that passengers in space are constantly floating in the air. If you have to work standing somewhere, you have to strap yourself in. Sunita is married to Michael Williams. Michael Williams was a police officer in Texas.
