Afghanistan, which is facing an economic crisis, has to face another problem. The situation is worsening due to floods in the country since Friday.
The flood waters have caused so much destruction that fields, roads, houses have been washed away and crops destroyed in villages and cities. Areas of Afghanistan like Badakhshan, Ghor, Baghlan and Herat have been worst affected by the floods.
According to media reports, more than 300 people have lost their lives in the floods so far. Many international relief agencies and service groups are delivering relief materials like medicines, food, safety and emergency kits etc. to the affected areas.
Five districts of Baglan region have been badly affected due to floods. Flash floods have devastated villages, flooded homes and killed livestock.
More than a thousand houses, thousands of hectares of agricultural land have been damaged in the floods. It has become difficult for trucks to reach many flood-hit areas.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has urged member states and other countries of the world to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the floods in Afghanistan. Apart from this, the former President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai has also sought humanitarian assistance for the victims affected by the flash floods. (Image: PTI)
