AstraZeneca Latest News: Covishield maker AstraZeneca (AZN Limited) will withdraw its Covid-19 vaccine worldwide. On Tuesday (May 7, 2024), the British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company informed that it has begun the process of withdrawing the vaccine. A report by news agency Reuters also quoted the company as saying that it had to take the step due to a drop in demand.
AZN Ltd also informed that it will withdraw the marketing authorization of the vaxavaria vaccine in Europe. According to a company statement, "Several Covid-19 vaccines have been developed since the Corona pandemic. In such a situation, updated vaccines are also available in the markets." AstraZeneca also said that demand for its vaxavaria vaccine has fallen for this reason. This is the reason why it is no longer being manufactured or supplied.
The move by the Covid-19 vaccine maker comes days after AstraZeneca admitted for the first time in court documents that the Oxford University His vaccine, developed in partnership, can pose a rare and serious risk of blood clots.
The Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccine, sold in India as Covishield and in Europe as Vaxjavria, is a viral vector vaccine, developed using a modified chimpanzee adenovirus. CoviShield, manufactured and marketed in Hindustan in partnership with the Serum Institute of India (SII), was widely administered in India to nearly 90% of the Indian population.
