Unidentified gunmen opened fire indiscriminately on a security post in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province, killing four security personnel. The attack took place on Thursday at a check post in Balochistan’s Sherani district, police officials said.

According to a police official, one of the attackers was killed in retaliatory fire during the attack. A police officer said that a search operation was started in the area after the incident. At the same time, Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Qudus Bizenjo has condemned the attack.

“The terrorists are not going to demoralize the security forces with their cowardly act,” Abdul Qudus Bizenjo said. He further said, “Sacrifice of security forces is an example for the country.” Bizenjo said that the security forces are ensuring the security of the country with determination and courage.
At least one police officer was injured in an attack on Smart Police Station Civil Lines Quetta earlier on Saturday after an attacker hurled a grenade at the station and fled the scene, reports of the attack said.
Increase in the number of terrorist attacks in Pakistan
The Islamabad-based think tank Pakistan Institute of Peace Studies (PIPS) said that the number of terrorist attacks in Pakistan increased by 27 percent last year compared to 2021. In 2022, at least 419 people were killed and 734 injured in 262 terrorist attacks.
