The ministry issued a statement saying all the kidnapped male workers were taken by members of the armed group along a highway about 22 miles (34.4 km) west of the state capital Tuxtla Gutierrez.

14 employees of the Ministry of State Security are being investigated by federal and state agents. In the video of the hijacking released according to the information, a car suddenly stops on the highway and all the employees are held at gunpoint and told to get inside the car. However, Reuters has not yet confirmed the video and the authenticity is yet to be verified. The state prosecutor’s office said it is investigating alleged photographs and videos of the incident.
