A person of the main items of the Toronto Blue Jays‘ late-2010s rebuild appears to be on the way out the door.
The Blue Jays have selected second baseman and ideal fielder Cavan Biggio for assignment, the crew introduced Friday night. In a corresponding go, Toronto recalled very first baseman and selected hitter Spencer Horwitz from the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
At the time a promising prospect, Biggio has struggled mightily in 2024. The son of Hall of Fame 2nd baseman, catcher and centre fielder Craig Biggio is slashing .200/.323/.291 with two home runs and 9 RBIs this season.
The Blue Jays, meanwhile, are off to a 30–32 start off soon after an 89–73 displaying in 2023.
As a rookie in 2019, Biggio hit 16 residence operates in 100 games—good more than enough to complete fifth in the voting for American League Rookie of the Calendar year. He hit for the cycle on Sept. 17 of that calendar year and performed nicely in the pandemic-shortened 2020 time, but couldn’t very get more than hump even as Toronto started to gain persistently.
