Pixar animators created a massive bet with Within Out 2, at minimum which is what they’ve explained to on their own to get into the headspace of the gambling-addicted gems seller Howard Ratner in Uncut Gems. In an interview with Animation Journal, director of format photography Adam Habib explained how the A24 film’s shaky cinematography inspired its latest emotion, Stress (performed by Maya Hawke). They discussed that the staff “built static sets throughout manufacturing and then set the electronic characters within people sets” and employed a “virtual camera” to film the scenes, entirely embodying the panic Ratner presents off whenever he breathes. However, why does the inspiration need to stop there? Is it as well late to incorporate Julia Fox as the emotion of Serenity? Or dare I pitch a new emotion: Slay.
