‘I think that the message of the show, which can speak to so many different issues, is that asking for help should be something that we as a society celebrate,’ Tom replied.
‘It’s an act of bravery, whether it is substance abuse, whether it is abuse at home, whether it’s abuse at school, standing up and asking for help is not something that you should be ashamed of,’ Tom said.
Tom added that he hoped the show would present that in a truthful and sensitive way.
‘So, for me, if we can somehow make people feel empowered by saying, ”I’m not feeling good, I really need some help.” Then we’ve done what we set out to do,’ Tom said.
The Crowded Room has just a 31 percent score on the aggregate review site Rotten Tomatoes.
The series also stars Amanda Seyfried, Sasha Lane, Will Chase, Lior Raz and Emmy Rossum.
Emmy, 36, portrays Tom’s mother in the series and the small age gap between them also has received backlash.
