Tom Colicchio has been a mainstay of fact television due to the fact Best Chef premiered in 2006 — but the Emmy-winning chef pretty much stop Tv set totally after his 1st onscreen working experience went awry.
“The initial time I did Tv set I swore I would under no circumstances do Tv again,” Colicchio, 61, discovered to Us Weekly exclusively even though advertising his new Spirits Community collection, Tom Colicchio’s The Pantry.
“So it was [Live With] Regis and Kathie Lee and I had just gained Meals & Wine magazine Ideal New Chef. This is 1991,” he recalled. “They termed me and stated, ‘Can you bring a dish? We’ll go through the steps.’ And so I introduced this dish, it was braised purple snapper, and then there was an eggplant caviar sandwiched between layers of fried eggplant [with] a sauce with roasted purple peppers, lemon, lemon zest [and] olive oil.”
Colicchio continued: “I had my measures set up and so I walked as a result of the techniques, and the producer was like, ‘Great.’ So I’m leaving, and [I ask] these two stagehands, ‘Hey, what time ought to I appear listed here on Monday?’ [They said] ‘Just get below at 8.’ I display up at 8 o’clock. The producer is screaming at me, ‘Where had been you? You missed rehearsal. You’re likely to screw this up.’”
Regretably for Colicchio, missing rehearsal wasn’t the only detail to go erroneous that working day.
“So they are doing the present and I’m about there location everything up, remaining incredibly tranquil, and each and every 10 minutes he’d come by [saying], ‘You’re heading to mess this up. I should really pull this phase,’” he claimed. “I’m receiving anxious now, much more than sweaty, I’m freaking out.”

When they began the phase, Colicchio mentioned that the late Regis Philbin was “fumbling with the oven,” so he went around to verify on the eggplant. When Philbin took the eggplant out of the oven, he quipped to Colicchio, “That’s what happens when you pass up rehearsal.”
“I’m like, ‘I can not believe that this person just threw me under the bus,’” Colicchio explained to Us. “So I get as a result of the phase and it’s excellent. We nail it. We totally nail it. And so a producer arrives around and says, ‘Oh, that was fantastic!’ And I was like, ‘Why did [Regis] throw me under the bus like that?’ He goes, ‘No, he missed rehearsal.’
Thankfully for Best Chef admirers, Colicchio did not let the incident discourage him from pursuing a profession on Television.

“It was these types of a terrible practical experience,” he reported. “I walked off that established and I mentioned, ‘I will in no way do Tv all over again.’ And here I am, 21 seasons afterwards of Best Chef, and I guess I’m doing Television set.”
Colicchio is expanding his truth cooking clearly show chops with his new interactive cooking exhibit, The Pantry. Hosted by Colicchio and featuring a star-studded lineup of celebrity chefs like Marcus Samuelsson and Kristen Kish, the Spirits Community sequence options a “buy bar” that permits viewers to invest in showcased elements and applications with a straightforward simply click. Although viewers enjoy the demonstrate, they can effortlessly recreate the dishes themselves at household.
“I experienced this idea about 20 years ago, [but] the technologies was not there yet,” Colicchio tells Us of the reducing-edge new exhibit. “A great deal of chefs when they cook dinner at household, myself integrated, I’m searching for shortcuts, and a large amount of these shortcuts are truly in the pantry.”
