The REAL amount of alcohol Love Island stars are allowed to drink while in the villa
Each year, Love Island viewers watch singletons engage in fiery arguments, romantic dates and dramatic fireside re-couplings, often with a drink in hand.
It could be misconstrued that the islanders get seriously boozy every night, with multiple villa parties and bold late-night conversations taking place.
But, contestants have their alcohol intake limited during their time on the show, to ensure what they say and do isn’t fuelled by booze.
The castmates aren’t given enough alcohol to get drunk, with all food and drink in the villa bought by the show’s producers and closely monitored.
So what is the real amount of alcohol Love Island stars are allowed to drink while in the villa?
Boozy? Each year Love Island viewers watch singletons engage in fiery arguments, romantic dates and dramatic fireside re-couplings, often with a drink in hand
Cheers! It could be misconstrued that the islanders get seriously boozy every night, with multiple villa parties and bold late-night conversations taking place
Oh! But, contestants have their alcohol intake limited during their time on the show, to ensure what they say and do isn’t fueled by booze
The Islanders are only allowed one to two drinks per night.
2016 contestant Liana Isadora Van-Riel previously told The Sun: ‘You’re allowed one or two drinks a night, either wine or beer, no spirits.’
Laura Anderson, who appeared in the 2018 series, previously told The Mirror there were occasionally ‘one or two’ bottles of prosecco between them, but insisted: ‘You’d be lucky to get half a glass of that!’
Eyal Booker, who starred alongside Laure, backed her recollection, telling Closer magazine: ‘It was very, very limited. Max two glasses of wine a night and that’s max!’
Love Island 2019 winner Amber Gill speculated that in 2021 the rule had been scrapped, when she tweeted: ‘They are giving these islanders more than two drinks I swear!’
Most recently, Olivia Attwood, who starred in the iconic 2017 series of Love Island, spoke about alcohol consumption in the villa on the popular podcast Call Her Daddy.
Olivia explained of the limits put on boozing: ‘The reason is, it’s because the show is about dating and about love.
‘They don’t want people doing stuff driven by alcohol and the next day waking up and being like: ”Oh I don’t actually like him, the reason I snogged him is because I was drunk.” It’s not that kind of show.
Small amounts only: The castmates aren’t given enough alcohol to get drunk, with all food and drink in the villa bought by the show’s producers and closely monitored
‘It wouldn’t make sense. They want people kissing and being in bed together because they want to, not because they are drunk.’
Olivia also revealed that she almost received a written warning from show producers because she constantly battled against the strict rules around drinking alcohol.
She said: ‘I questioned them about it every day to the point where they were like: ”If you ask again, you’re going to get a written warning.” I was told that in the beach hut because I argued it every day.’
However, looking back, Olivia admitted that she thinks it’s good that her alcohol consumption was limited during her series because they ‘were all balls-to-the-wall crazy.’
Elsewhere on the podcast, Olivia recalled night she got into a blazing row with her co-star Montana Brown in the villa.
She insisted: ‘I hadn’t even had my drink yet and then I went outside and the producer said: ”You’re not getting anything tonight!” I was like: ”Oh you’re joking!”
‘I swear I was sober, can you imagine if we were liquored up? It would be like fight club.’
