Sam Smith trends on Twitter after fake stage dive video goes viral

Sam Smith found themselves trending on Twitter after a disastrous stage diving video went viral. 

The singer, 31, was the talk of social media after a Twitter user wrote ‘Sam Smith went to stage dive and nobody caught him’ alongside a clip of a man jumping off stage and into the crowds. 

The stage dive didn’t end well, with the crowd parting so they quickly dropped to the ground in a painful looking incident. 

Left in shock at the clip, users tweeted: ‘Sorry i need to keep using this sam smith guy jumping or like idek crowd stage diving thing’; ‘This is absolutely done me Sam Smith stage dive.’ 

However, it quickly emerged that fans had been duped into believing it was the singer and the stage invader was actually a random man dressed up as a ninja turtle who had thrown himself into the crowd at a Vanilla Ice concert. 

Fans of Sam were quick to defend the singer and stop any false reports, tweeting: ‘Despite various ACCOUNTS spreading false information. Sam Smith DID not stage dive at any Concert..’; ‘worrying how many people genuinely thought it was Sam Smith in that stage dive clip’; 

‘I love @samsmith. And I dare everyone making fun of Stage-Diving-Not-Sam-Smith-Guy to show us their perfect bodies. Sam’s out there having the time of their life. And getting paid and adored for it. Be more jealous.’ 

‘U can tell that sam smith is on these ppls mind 24/7 ion even like sam smith as much yet y’all spreading misinformation about them stage diving that’s literally another person in a ninja turtle suit next time use ur brain’; 

‘From the Moment I saw the ” Sam Smith stage Dive ” I knew it wasn’t him. Folks, Google is FREE’; ‘Everyone getting tricked by the fake Sam Smith turtle stage dive. [sic]’ 

It’s understandable that some will have been fooled by the video as Sam is currently on their Gloria tour. 

However, they were recently forced to cancel the rest of their UK shows due to vocal cord issues. 

Fans were left in the dark after Sam suddenly cancelled their concert at the AO Arena in Manchester after just a few songs. 

The singer soon issued a statement, insisting they could not go on after noticing ‘something was really wrong’ with their voice. 

Sam has now revealed they could suffer permanent damage to their voice if they don’t go on complete vocal rest. 

The Stay With Me star is currently busy promoting their latest single Vulgar, a duet with Madonna. 

Sam’s alliance with Madonna appears to be a match made in heaven – or hell – depending on who’s listening, since the British hitmaker has been roiling some fans with religious imagery. 

The new song Vulgar comes nearly four months after Sam sparked a ‘satanic’ panic with their jaw-dropping performance at the Grammys in February. 

Singing alongside collaborator Kim Petras, the Grammy-winning artist donned devil headgear in the horror movie-inspired performance, outraging conservatives like Ted Cruz with their ‘demonic’ themes.
