My Kitchen Rules stars Carly and Tresne reveal the warning signs to look out for after their IVF miracle baby died from cancer at age one
My Kitchen Rules stars Carly Saunders and Tresne Middleton have opened up about the profound loss they felt after their miracle IVF baby died in February at age one.
On Thursday, the pair came forward to discuss the tragic loss and provide others with a list of easily missed signs something was wrong with their daughter Poppy.
‘We noticed her belly was starting to get enlarged. So, it was a little bit distended. And when she was feeding, she would have quite large vomits,’ Tresne told 7Life.
The pair added another clue something was wrong with Poppy was when she got a bruise on her thigh – which remained on her body after five weeks.
Their worst fears were confirmed when their beloved child was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a severe form of blood cancer.

‘If they’ve got bruises or excessive bleeding – they are generally signs that the leukaemia is affecting their marrow which therefore affects their blood,’ Carly said.
She added they did not realise Poppy’s pale complexion was a major sign she was seriously ill.
Tresne said after the couple received the heartbreaking cancer diagnosis they made a promise to spend as much time with Poppy as they possibly could.

‘It let her feel like this is a normal lifestyle. We didn’t treat her any differently than we would any other child,’ she said.
‘We did as much as we could to try and normalise what was happening to her. I don’t think she knew any different.’
The couple have been documenting their healing journey on social media since Poppy passed away in February.

They recently returned home to Australia after spending some time in Thailand, as they hoped the trip would help them cope with their grief.
Posting a video montage of their time in Thailand to Instagram, the couple wrote: ‘Home again… it is time to face home again.
‘It’s beyond us that the whole time we were in hospital with Pops we just wanted to be home, and now we’ll do almost anything to avoid it.’
Before Poppy passed, the mothers documented the realities of parenting a sick child on social media, and thanked their followers for their continuous support.
