“We ended up heading for a little something grounded and naturalistic. At the same time, we desired to use the light and digicam to explain to a persuasive story visually,” suggests cinematographer Martin Ahlgren about “3 Physique Problem,” an absorbing collection from D.B. Weiss, David Benioff and Alexander Woo that explores an alien invasion by a scientific lens. A stirring illustration of the immersive visible language is viewed in Episode 5, “Judgment Day,” exactly where the distant beings reveal their presence on Earth with a colossal eye in the sky. For some, it’s nightmare fuel, but for some others, like Tatiana (Marlo Kelly), who’s been a loyal ally to the aliens, it’s a blessing. To make the surreal sequence, pictures of character reactions ended up intercut with visual results of a planet flipping upside down on by itself, all culminating in a shot of a female noticed from driving, limping with crutches. The camera then flips, revealing an emotionally charged Tatiana right before little by little pushing down on her from the sky. Ahlgren utilized a telescopic crane to bring the overhead perspective into concentration. “Part of it is sort of how the terror builds and builds, and then it lands on her and it’s not terror. For her it is salvation,” he suggests. The alien’s message is apparent: You are bugs.
