They’re rein-ing it in.
The cast of “Baby Reindeer” has spoken out about the real “Martha,” Fiona Harvey, coming forward and giving an interview to Piers Morgan.
Nava Mau, who played Teri, said the cast stayed far away from it.
“Yeah, we decided not to watch it, so we didn’t,” she told “ET” in an interview published Tuesday.
Based on events from creator-star Richard Gadd’s life, the show (now streaming, with nearly 60 million viewers tuning in for its first month) follows Donny (Gadd), a struggling comedian who meets Martha (Jessica Gunning) while he’s working as a bartender. When he shows her a moment of kindness, that backfires, and she turns into an obsessed stalker — doing acts such as sending him over 41,000 emails.
Teri was his love interest.
Gadd initially said that although the show is based on his life, he didn’t want viewers trying to sleuth out who the real Martha was.
“That’s not the point of our show,” he told the Hollywood Reporter.
Despite his statements, internet sleuths searched out who the real “Martha” is. In May, 58-year-old Fiona Harvey, née Muir, gave her first TV interview to Piers Morgan for his show “Uncensored.”
When asked what message she had for Gadd, she said, “Leave me alone, please. Get a life, get a proper job. I am horrified at what you’ve done.”
In the interview, Harvey revealed she has not watched the show, but found it “quite obscene.”
“I find it horrifying, misogynistic. Some of the death threats have been really terrible online. People phoning me up,” she went on. “You know, it’s been absolutely horrendous. I wouldn’t give credence to something like that, and it’s not really my kind of drama.”
On whether she was in love with Gadd, Harvey said: “I gave him the brush-off.”
“I said, ‘No, I’m sorry, I’m not interested.’ He asked me to sleep with him,” she claimed. “And I said, ‘I’ve got a boyfriend.’ I gave him the brush-off big time, I think, you know, subtly so. But the bottom line is … No, I don’t fancy little boys without jobs. That sounds awful. That sounds really, really callous. But, you know.”
Mau, 32, is a transgender actress, and she told the outlet that regardless of what inspired the show, “I felt very lucky to receive this character that was so beautifully written, and I got to play the Teri that comes from the script and was crafted in collaboration with so many people. We all came together and put our own little pieces in — into Teri, and that is who I think is on-screen.”
