- Security forces are suspected to have crossed the border
- Prisoners escape from Balochistan’s Chaman Jail
- The prisoners had already planned their escape
While Pakistan was celebrating Eid, 17 prisoners escaped during prayers in one of its provinces, Balochistan. Inmates escaped from Balochistan’s Chaman Jail, during which the deployed policemen opened fire, killing one inmate. Balochistan Jail Inspector General Malik Shuja Qasi said that some police guards and inmates were injured in the violence and firing.
The prisoners had already planned their escape
Shuja Kasi said that while Eid prayers were being offered in an open space in the jail itself on Thursday, some inmates escaped from there. He further added that apparently these inmates planned the escape and executed it during Eid prayers. He fatally attacked a police guard outside his barracks for Eid prayers.
There must have been outside help – the police
He further said that though the policemen posted in the jail tried to stop them and opened fire but 17 inmates managed to escape while one was killed. He said it appears that outside help was needed to make his plan a success.
Suspected of fleeing to Iran
Qazi said some of the escaped prisoners were serving sentences for terrorist activities. He said Chaman prison is close to the Iranian border town and security forces suspect that the inmates may have crossed the border with the help of allies.
