‘It’s hard to break away’: Taron Egerton reveals he’s taking break from social media as he feels ‘removed from himself’
Taron Egerton has revealed he is taking a break from social media as he feels ‘removed from himself’ and unable to be ‘present.’
The Rocketman actor, 33, took to Instagram to share a lengthy post in which he detailed how ‘addictive’ he found social media and urge others to leave their phones ‘in the other room.’
He wrote: ‘I’m not sure why I’m making a big declaration about it; I just think it’s hard to break away from a cycle that I’ve grown to find a bit addictive and this is me making a commitment to myself
‘I’ve gotten myself into a place where I spend too much time scrolling and I actually feel like my ability to sit and be present and read books and watch movies and even seek out the company of people I love is eroding as a result.
‘I feel a bit removed from myself. And with regards to work, I know I am capable of more and IG [Instagram] is one of several impediments to getting me there.

Egerton recently watched Sir Elton John perform his final UK show in front of thousands of adoring fans at Glastonbury – but anyone expecting the actor to be brought onstage for a duet with the pop icon were left bitterly disappointed, not least because of Egerton’s acclaimed portrayal of Sir Elton in musical biopic Rocket Man.
While the two-hour set featured numerous guest appearances, the likes of former collaborators Kiki Dee, Britney Spears and Dua Lipa were ditched in favour of lesser known artists Jacob Lusk, Stephen Sanchez and Rina Sawayama.
Even Egerton, a fan favourite who has previously performed with Sir Elton during his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road farewell tour, was omitted on the night – much to the dismay of those watching.
Taking to Twitter, one disappointed fan wrote: ‘I was expecting to see Taron Egerton join Elton to sing Rocket Man.’
