Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro was blasted on social media Tuesday in excess of a tweet describing why her Catholic faith motivated her to “defend a women’s appropriate to entry abortion.”
“I am a Catholic — baptized, raised, and verified,” the Connecticut Democrat posted on Monday alongside with a backlink to a statement from Catholic Democrats detailing their opposition to the repeal of Roe v. Wade on the 1-calendar year anniversary of the selection.
“The fundamental tenets of my religion compel me to protect a women’s ideal to access abortion,” she additional. “I am proudly portion of the faithful large the vast majority of US Catholics who help legal protections for abortion entry.”
DeLauro’s tweet was widely panned and “ratioed” on Twitter, generally by Catholics who pointed out that Catholic teaching views abortion as a “moral evil.”

“The Catholic Church declares abortion a grave ethical evil, a mortal sin, rejecting Christ in the little one killed,” conservative commentator Liz Wheeler tweeted. “You can not be a Catholic in great standing & help abortion. By supporting abortion, you are rejecting Catholicism & Christ. I inspire — & pray — you will go to confession.”
“I never have any plan what ‘fundamental’ is supposed to suggest in this article, but the literal tenets of her faith say abortion is a significant sin,” Serious Clear Politics Senior Author Mark Hemingway tweeted.
“All you experienced to say was: ‘I was raised Catholic, but I battle with this training of my faith…’ Most persons can comprehend that,” conservative strategist Giancarlo Sopo tweeted. “None of us are excellent. Grossly distorting a faith shared by more than 1 billion people today just to suit your politics is some narcissistic bulls—.”

DeLauro’s business office did not right away respond to a request for comment from Fox Information Electronic.
In the statement DeLauro joined to in her tweet, Catholic Democrats discussed that “the separation of church and condition implies making it possible for for our faith to notify our community responsibilities and how we greatest provide our constituents — not that we impose our religious beliefs and customs on some others who might not share them.
