Former Republican Senator Lowell P. Weicker handed absent at the age of 92 on Wednesday.
Weicker, who also served as Governor of Connecticut from 1991 to 1995, passed away at a healthcare facility in Middletown immediately after a limited illness, in accordance to a relatives statement.
The Republican was very first elected to Connecticut’s Basic Assembly in 1962. He was later elected to the U.S. Senate, serving from 1971 to 1989.
Weicker served on the Senate’s specific committee on Watergate in 1973.

“It is with fantastic sadness that we study the information of the passing of previous Governor Lowell P. Weicker, Jr.,” Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont tweeted on Wednesday. “I am directing U.S. and state flags decreased in his honor effective straight away.”
