Blythe Danner, 81, is “completely fine” after leaving a charity event in an ambulance.
A source told People on Monday that the incident occurred while Danner, the mother of Gwyneth Paltrow, 51, was attending the Springs Food Pantry’s E.A.T. in the Hidden Gardens 2024 event at the Corbett Estate in East Hampton, New York, on Saturday.
The event was honoring actor spouses John Slattery (“Mad Men”) and Talia Balsam (who was also on “Mad Men,” and was briefly married to George Clooney before Slattery).
“It was early on in the event and she sat there for a while as they took her vitals,” the source told the outlet about Danner.
“It didn’t look that bad, but they took her away anyway.”
A rep for Paltrow told the outlet that the Goop founder’s mother is “completely fine” after the unspecified incident.
Danner, who has been nominated for Emmys and Tonys, is mother to Gwyneth and Jake Paltrow, 48, with her late husband, Bruce Paltrow, who died in 2002.
She’s appeared in popular films and shows such as “Will & Grace,” “To Wong Foo,” “Forces of Nature,” and she got a Tony award nomination in 1988 for playing Blanche DuBois in “A Streetcar Named Desire.”
In 2018, Danner was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a form of oral cancer that often develops in the salivary glands.
It’s the same cancer that killed her late husband.
“Everyone is touched by cancer in some way, but it’s unusual for a couple to have the same cancer,” Danner told People in 2022.
“I remember I looked up at heaven and said to Bruce, ‘Are you lonely up there?’ ” she recalled, adding that, “It’s a sneaky disease. But I’m fine and dandy now. And I’m lucky to be alive.”
Danner also said she kept her diagnosis from her kids for a while.
“I wanted to forge ahead as a mother, and I didn’t want them to worry,” she explained.
When Gwyneth found out about her mother’s cancer, she said she was “very shocked.”
“It was scary. And it felt really eerie because it was so similar [to my dad’s],” the “The Talented Mr. Ripley” star told the outlet.
“She went through it with so much grace. I was amazed at how strong she was able to be.”
