Duran Duran new music
In October 2023, Duran Duran released their 16th studio album āDanse Macabre.ā
The record is a bit of a departure for the New Wave group; this time around, the band embraces a creepier, spookier sound than they have on previous records. Foreboding horns lead us into the haunting opening track āNIGHTBOAT,ā ominous percussion kicks in and weāre off.
āBLACK MOONLIGHT,ā one of the albumās two singles is a bit more in step with Duran Duranās brand of arena rock. Dancey with a bit of an edge and a hooky chorus āHold tight/weāre going out tonight/under the black moonlight.ā
Standout tracks to keep an eye on include the longing āLOVE VOUDOU,ā propulsive, bass-heavy āBURY A FRIENDā and the hypnotic title track āDANSE MACABRE.ā
Still, for our money, the song youāll be humming all night long āĀ make no mistake, this is a nighttime album āĀ is their sped-up, shiny cover of The Specialsā āGHOST TOWN.ā
Donāt sleep on their glossy re-imaginings of the Rolling Stonesā āPaint It Black,ā Rick Jamesā āSuper Freakā (theyāve updated it to āSuper Lonely Freakā) and The Talking Headsā āPsycho Killer.ā
Basically, āDANSE MACABREā is your dream Tim Burton soundtrack.
If youād like to give it a try, you can listen to the angsty album here.
