Business establishments remained closed in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), in protest against police action, causing hardship to the common man. Meanwhile, clashes were also seen between the security forces and the protesters. At the same time, after the stone pelting, the police also fired tear gas shells to control the protesters.
A shutter down and chakka jam strike was announced in Muzaffarabad in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) on the call of the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) on Friday. Meanwhile, the demonstrators pelted stones at the police, due to which the people living in the house and the mosque had to face a lot of trouble. The police then retaliated and fired tear gas shells to quell the protesters. Protests took place in Samhani, Sehansa, Mirpur, Rawalkot, Khuiratta, Tattapani, Hattian Bala in PoK. The JKJAC called for a strike on Friday after several of its leaders and activists were arrested by the police in overnight raids in different parts of Muzaffarabad and Mirpur divisions.

Consumers should get electricity after cost of generation of electricity in the state. The matter was settled by an official conciliation committee in December last year. After which a notification was also released by the government on February 4. However, in April the committee announced a long march on May 11 to protest the government’s failure to fulfill its written commitments. He said the committee had announced last month that people from across the state would march towards Muzaffarabad on May 11.
59 policemen injured
59 policemen, including deputy superintendent of police Ilyas Janjua and two officials of the revenue department, were injured in Rehan Gali, while 19 other policemen were injured in Sahamsa Baroiya. Along with this, a policeman has also died.
People came out on the road
These public works committees are protesting against taxes imposed on electricity bills and the ever-increasing price of flour. A similar movement took place in August last year as well. Meanwhile, the PoK Chief Secretary wrote to the Home Secretary in Islamabad seeking 6 Civil Armed Forces (CAF) platoons for security in the wake of the May 11 strike. Fearing a strike, the government imposed Section 144 across PoK and declared a holiday in all educational institutions on May 10 and 11, sources said. However, thousands of people took to the streets in all districts of PoK.
