- China, Russia, Iran and India allege that such activities are taking place
- In the preface of the report, the CSIS chief cited the example of the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar
Canada’s intelligence agency has accused India of spying and interfering in the country’s internal affairs. These allegations were made in a public report-2023 released this week by Canada’s security intelligence agency CSIS. The report said that especially China, Russia, Iran and India are doing interference and espionage activities in Canada and Western countries. During the year 2023, these countries continued to engage in foreign interference and espionage activities to achieve their goals and interests. In the introduction to the report, CSIS chief David Vigneault also cited the example of the killing of Khalistan supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia on July 18 last year. Quoting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s statement in Parliament on September 18, the report said there was a credible link between the Indian agent and the murder. CSIS head David Vigneault also noted that Prime Minister Trudeau has said that protecting Canadian citizens and protecting Canadian sovereignty is a fundamental issue.
Canada wants responsible attitude from Indian government : Canada
The report said that before Trudeau made the statement, CSIS chief David Vigneault and national security adviser Jody Thomas had already visited India to discuss the killing. He said that Canada and its allies want the Indian government to show accountability for its involvement in the murder of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil.
