Times Square: More than 500 women protest in New York’s Times Square wearing sarees.

• A grand display of Indian saree heritage was held at the world famous Times Square
• In this special event, women from nine countries learned about the history and heritage of various sarees
• More than 500 women dressed in sarees and performed with dance, music and created awareness

Hundreds of women were seen wearing colorful and different styles of sarees at Times Square in New York City, which is known all over the world. Along with these women from the Indian-American community, hundreds of women from other countries also joined this special event. Showcased the beautiful heritage and cultural diversity of sarees. More than 500 women from nine countries along with the Indian community participated in the Sari Goes Global event organized yesterday in Times Square. All these women got involved and also chose different collections of sarees. These countries included Nepal, Britain, America, Bangladesh, UAE, Trinidad and Uganda.

Wearing colorful sarees with beautiful and artistic embroidery on different types of clothes including khadi, the girls proudly displayed their collections. They waved the tricolor of India and took pictures while dancing together. Also, this program was organized by British Women in Sarees by telling a story about the culture and heritage of their sarees. In which the eternal beauty of saree was showcased through music, dance and saree talk.

The purpose of this is to help the handloom artisans in India by organizing the program all over the world and to increase the awareness about sarees in the country and the world. The focus is on the importance of the saree as a symbol of unity and women empowerment in the world.
