Place singer Sara Evans is reflecting on her “really horrific” divorce from ex-partner Craig Schelske — which led to her departure from Dancing With the Stars in 2006.
“I was killing myself. It was so exhausting,” Evans, 53, said all through the Thursday, April 4, episode of her “Diving in Deep” podcast. “It was 1 of the most difficult times in my everyday living.”
The singer admitted that her “marriage was dissolving” months ahead of getting a DWTS cast member through the show’s 3rd season. “I understood that I desired to get out of the relationship, but I did not believe that in divorce, I did not want to divorce.”
Evans and Schelske were being married from 1993 to 2007 and share 3 young children with each other. She submitted for divorce in October 2006, accusing Schelske of infidelity, verbal and psychological abuse and professing that he viewed pornography in their property. Accusations which he denied at the time. Virtually a 12 months later, the divorce was finalized with the pair getting joint custody of their little ones.
Just after assembly her DWTS husband or wife, Tony Dovolani, he requested what was going on in her marriage. That was the instant Evans recognized it was “obvious” she and Schelske had been owning major problems.
“As I was appearing on Dancing With the Stars, the relationship was breaking down. We experimented with relationship counseling a whole lot,” Evans ongoing, noting it felt like her ex-husband was “pulling me back” in phrases of profession milestones.

“He preferred to be at each episode and arrive down right here and be found on Television, on digicam,” Evans claimed. “Also at the similar time, he was striving to make a situation towards me to present that I was working and not remaining a good mother.”
When Evans was on DWTS, she would also have to satisfy concert events that had now been booked — all while working with marital difficulties.
“I would be on Dancing with the Stars, and you could see some of the episodes, my eyes have been just blood purple swollen for the reason that I’d been crying the whole working day, missing my youngsters,” Evans recalled, saying that she’s “glad” for the DWTS knowledge inspite of it developing through a “horrific time” in her life.
Sooner or later, Evans stated she “reached my limit” and called divorce lawyers in Nashville.
“The conduct was so terrible, and I just recognized I really don’t want to raise these young children with him, with this,” she alleged. “I’m not heading to say why, but there were quite great good reasons why.”
Evans claimed that matters were “getting scary” with her ex and issues came to a breaking stage when she was out to evening meal with her young ones after a DWTS taping. “Something transpired at the restaurant,” Evans stated, not giving facts — but revealing her plans to file for divorce the following day.
“I experienced to stop Dancing with the Stars due to the fact the following working day we were likely to get started the team dance rehearsals and since of the trauma that my kids went via at the cafe,” Evans recalled asserting her departure from the clearly show, without the need of supplying particulars. “[I had to] clarify that my young ones ended up traumatized and I’m not leaving them for 5 seconds, and so I have to quit the demonstrate.”
